Barbara Sharief is a native of South Florida and has been a long-term resident of Broward County. She is a proud mother to three daughters: Amanda, Alyssa, and Hailey.

Barbara has over two decades of experience in the specialized field of issues pertaining to medically complex children. Barbara holds a Master’s of Science in Nursing and an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Degree from Florida International University. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Nursing. In 2001, Barbara visualized and created what is now known as South Florida Pediatric Homecare Inc. The company currently services residents of Broward and Miami-Dade Counties and employs over 600 professionals in South Florida.

Barbara has served on the Miramar City Commission in 2009/2010. In 2010, Barbara was elected to the Broward County Commission District 8 seat-serving the culturally diverse population of Hallandale Beach, Miramar, Pembroke Park, Pembroke Pines, and West Park. In 2012/13 she served as Vice-Mayor of Broward County and then served as Mayor of Broward County for 2013/14. She served as President for the Florida Association of Counties in 2015/16 and is currently the Chair of National Association of Counties’ Subcommittee on Medicaid and Indigent Care. Barbara is currently serving her second run as Broward County’s Mayor.

Barbara will continue representing her constituents on a state and national level to advocate for economic stability through job creation, small business support, advocating for affordable healthcare and putting an end to homelessness.
